If you are a web designer or web developer and you don’t have a website, this is a huge mistake. It is like being a weight trainer with a weight problem. Doesn’t make much sense, right?
If you want your job to be designing web pages, then you have to present that in the most acceptable fashion: by keeping an up-to-date website featuring your design skills.
There are three areas that web designers should pay attention to when designer their own website. Listed below are these three elements:
1. Be clear about what it is that you do:
If your main purpose is to design web pages, then your company name, logo, and tag line must all convey this main purpose. There should never be any question of what it is you do for the visitors of your site. Your web site visitors shouldn’t have to spend time trying to figure it out, so your website should be very detailed and less abstract.
2. Have Samples:
This can be in the shape or form of a portfolio. Whichever way you decide to go, people need to see samples of your work and they should not have to go search for it. Samples of your past projects should be readily available and displayed on your website. Your portfolio doesn’t have to be extensive, and if you’re just starting out, display some of the work you’ve done in your free time that shows your skills and what you’re offering.
3. Make your contact information easy to find:
This is a very important element if in fact you want to get some clients. If people see something they like, they’ll probably ask you about it. However, if they can’t find a quick email or phone number to reach you, they’ll leave without thinking twice. It’s a very good idea to make a complete contact page on your website. It is also a good idea to have your email address in several different areas of your pages on the website, so it is easily accessible and no one will have to search for it.
It’s important for both web designer and web developers to create a website for their business to project a professional and business image, as well as having easily accessible contact information. Furthermore, clients want to know about your site and your skill-level before ever thinking about hiring you.
